What Is Homesteading?

What is Homesteading? This is a process that entails living on the land for several months. You build or set up a cabin to live in. You are also required to clear off a percentage and grow a crop. This is not happening to much in today's society. We homesteaded in Alaska when I was a child. It was an adventure that was very lucrative for people to get land with just the effort of living and clearing. There was a lot of memories that as a small child stay with you. When you go shopping for food its for a good while and you fill up plenty of shopping carts to hold you over till the next trip. We as small children helped clear the land making our small piles of sticks and stones and getting paid dimes for our efforts. We would save them up in our paint boxes until we had another shopping trip to spend it. Children need to earn so they will appreciate money, to many just get it handed to them and they have no money values instilled. Living and enjoying the outdoors is phenomenal. One night we had to go look for our Samoyed she was found with snowballs on her and she had become so heavy she had laid down to die. We brought her home and let the snow melt off her and she was ready to go again. |
