When you cut the copper tube you will need a special tool to make the cut clean. Without crimping it so it will go into the piece that has the piece to cut the pressure off of the water coming in. It is easy to call the plumber but sometimes being a single person you do not have the money to do this. It is very rewarding to have the satisfaction of getting it done yourself. When you ask the hardware person what to do and others how to use the tool you have learned more from others and this is how you will get by in life learning something new every day. When asked about the tube cutter he simply explained that you tighten it up and then you spin and tighten again and spin until it breaks in two. I have seen this done but never have tried it myself. Very simple to use and learn about.
